RIFF Schedule

RIFF number 5 has finished. For eleven days we presented a selection of quality films from 27 different countries, from a brand new short film (2 Birds) to a 3 hour 1920’s Danish movie filmed in Iceland. The films came from all over the globe, but French and Norwegian films along with arctic pictures were in focus and Argentinian films got their own category just like Icelandic ones.

Some of those films, like those in the Open Seas category, had already made a name for themselves at film festivals around the world. On the other hand most of the films in New Visions, who competed for the Golden Puffin award, are beginning their journey around the world. There were many Nordic premieres, European premieres an even world premiers and we had two new categories of a total of eight; There is world. changes, dedicated to environmental issues, and Sound on Sight, about the interaction of films and music.

Many prominent filmmakers and artists visited the festival. These included Costa-Gavras, master of the political thriller, Iranian artist Shirin Neshat, Danish actress and director Paprika Steen, Finnish director Arto Halonen, Armenian actress Arsinée Khanjian, Teri McLuhan and the ever-young musician David Amram. The most important guests however were those sitting in the dark with their eyes on the silver screen, this festival was for all of you. We hope you had a terrific festival.
